Death By Sex
Bee mating always takes place in the air and results in the death of the male. During mating, his genitals, usually located inside the tip of his abdomen, are turned inside out and penetrate the queen's vaginal pouch. Sperm is discharged and moves from the pouch to a sperm-holding reservoir called the spermatheca. The force of the drone's ejaculation makes the tip of his penis fall off and turns into a plug that prevents the spermatozoa from dripping out.
